Embark on a fascinating 3-day cultural adventure through Ethiopia’s Omo Valley, home to some of Africa’s most unique and traditional tribes. This tour offers rare opportunities to meet the Bena, Hamar, Karo, Nyangatom, and Mursi people — each with their distinct customs, dress, and way of life. Day 1: Jinka – Keyafer – Turmi
Depart from Jinka and drive to Turmi, stopping at Keyafer on the way. Visit the Keyafer Market, one of the most colorful and authentic markets in the Omo Valley, frequented by the Bena and Hamar tribes. Explore Bena villages and observe their traditional attire and customs. Continue to Turmi, home of the Hamar people, one of the most visually striking tribes in the region. Learn about their unique hairstyles made with ochre and clay, their pastoral lifestyle, and the famous “bull-jumping” ceremony—a rite of passage for young men.
Day 2: Turmi – Karo – Nyangatom – Turmi – Jinka
After breakfast, drive to visit the Karo tribe, known for their elaborate body painting, riverine lifestyle, and fishing along the banks of the Omo River. Continue to the Nyangatom tribe, a lesser-known group whose young women are adorned with colorful bead necklaces gifted by their fathers and husbands. Gain insight into their customs and community structure during your village visit. Return to Turmi for lunch, then drive back to Jinka in the afternoon.
Day 3: Jinka – Mursi Village – Jinka – Addis Ababa
After breakfast, drive through Mago National Park to reach the Mursi village. The Mursi women are famously known for wearing large clay lip plates and ear gauges, while the men are renowned for their traditional stick fighting (Donga). After visiting the village, return to Jinka, then transfer to the airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa for overnight or onward departure.
